Manukai Designs was founded in 2003, when we returned to the Big Island of Hawaii to help manage our family’s homestead, Keolamauloa. We had completed our education at the San Francisco Art Institute, and we were about to have our daughter, Kia’i. Our vision was to create a sustainable lifestyle that balanced both work and play, and to raise our daughter surrounded by the vibrancy of nature.

Our art studio and workshop is located on our homestead on the Hamakua Coast, and we produce several artisan product lines, as well as fine art for exhibition and by commission. Our online store is mainly for our products, but we  occasionally list original work and fine art prints there as well. Mahalo for visiting our website, and please take a moment to check out our online shop!

Bodysurfing HandboardsSHOP / INSTA
Keith is a second-generation surfboard shaper who learned the skill of crafting surfboards from his dad. Our Manukai Handboards are fresh, colorful bodysurfing handboards made of old and broken surfboards, with straps made from used wetsuits. We are stoked to be able to provide surfboard recycling services to our island community, and in a small way, contribute to a more sustainable surf industry.

Wood & Resin JewelrySHOP / INSTA
All of our products reflect a contemporary design aesthetic and a commitment to resourcefulness and sustainability. Our Manukai Designs jewelry combines the leftover resin from our surfcraft and art activities, with locally foraged and reclaimed wood.

Our personal artwork takes form in a range of media, including sculpture, installation, painting, photography, and video. We create and exhibit artwork both independently, (Sally Lundburg & Keith Tallett), as well as collaboratively, as Les Filter Feeders. Please visit our websites to view portfolios of past and ongoing works.

Contact us directly in regards to exhibition, private commission, or for a private gallery of available works. Email:studio@manukaidesigns.com.
